What is your favorite part or your job?
Many small and mediums sized business are not able to provide enterprise level IT support for their companies. After providing those service to large enterprise customer for many years, I understand what the small and medium sized business need (and don’t need) to keep their cash registers ringing. I am proud to provide our services to these companies at a price point they can afford.
What was the inspiration behind the business? Or what is your personal inspiration?
When I was looking for my next career move, I did not even consider owning a franchise. But after some discussion with a franchise broker, I realized that it could be a way to do what I love doing, help small business and provide jobs for other people. Even though I though it was time to exit the IT world, after learning about CMIT Solutions and talking to other CMIT owners, I felt this would be the perfect fit.
What are the three most important things about your business?
For small and medium sized business. One, we keep your computers up and running smoothly. Two we protect your data by making sure it is available to you when and where you need it. Three we defend your network and computers by making sure you have the right types and levels of security.
If you could explain your business in the simplest way, how would you?
We become your IT department! Most SMBs do not have an IT guy, even though they need one or more. We take on that role, from day to day operations, working with your software vendors when things don’t work to long term budgeting and strategic planning.
What is your key to success?
My Team! I have been able to build a small local team of IT technician that can solve any problem! And if they don’t know the answer, there are 800 technical experts in CMIT that are my “extended team”. Our national help is also a key component to my team. They can solve 90% of the problems remotely!
What is a dream project for your company?
Managing a company’s IT infrastructure and cybersecurity is our sweet spot. Our dream project/customer would have 20 to 100 PCs and a few servers. They would consider us their IT Department!
What is one of your favorite client stories?
I was working on a Saturday at a customer site. It had been a terrible week for me. I was helping this customer move into a new location, setting up PCs for 10 user and, testing to make sure everything was working. I really just wanted to get the job done and head home. Just about the time I was finishing the customer came in and gave me a very nice winter jacket with his company’s logo on it. He thanked me for a very smooth move to the new office and said we couldn’t have done without you! I went home feeling much better about the whole week!
If you could be talented at anything instantly, what would you choose?
Playing musical instruments. I love music. I own 3 guitars, a banjo, a violin and set of bagpipes. I can play them a little, but it would be great to be musically talented and be able to play them much better than I can now!
What is one of your favorite quotes?
All of us are smarter than one of us. I firmly believe that have a supporting team that we truly rely on gives a much greater potential than we can ever achieve by ourselves.
Do you have any special services you offer Montgomery Chamber of Commerce members?
For businesses that we have not worked with that have 3 or more computers, we offer a 2 hour “get out of trouble free” call. If you have a problem, we will give you up to 2 hours of support to try and resolve it.
What is your favorite place to eat in Montgomery?
There are so many great restaurants, taverns and breweries with a wide variety of cuisines that I can’t pick a favorite – it’s more around what I am in the mood for!
How did you pivot in 2020?
2020 was a busy year for us. All our customers stayed operational through the Pandemic. But where they were working from changed. We worked hard to set up remote access to their business systems and made sure that their data and IT system we available and secured. It seems as soon as everyone finally got set up and comfortable working from home it was time to start transitioning back and kick-off the projects that were put on hold.
