There were a lot of changes for us all in 2020.  For those who attended, you may have noticed that deSha's was the Montgomery Chamber Pivot award winner for 2020.  The chamber had wanted to honor a business that took a look at 2020 and the pandemic and was able to pivot to meet the needs of the year and continue to thrive.

We may not have had time to have acceptance speeches at our Annual Meeting (over Zoom) this year, but wanted to let everyone know how deSha's pivoted and get to know them a little more.  We wanted to thank them for providing some entertainment and some really great food for us all.

Instead of our normal business spotlight, I asked deSha's to provide us a top 10 list of how they adjusted in 2020.  Not only to get to know them better, but also to serve as an example to other businesses who could use some help getting through this rapidly changing time.  W

Top 10 Ways deSha's Adjusted to COVID-19:

1.) Made the focus on outdoor dining to make everyone feel comfortable. Went from 9 tables on the back deck to 38 outdoor tables on the back deck, Polo patio, portico and parking lot.

2.) Went from full sized bands to duos in a socially distanced area in the parking lot to discourage dancing. People were still able to enjoy entertainment and eat outside in comfort. We arranged casual cocktail seating outside too for a different experience. In October we moved the duo bands back into the Grille Bar. The smaller musical groups are actually better suited for our indoor dining experience.

3.) We went above and beyond Governor DeWine’s mandates to make everyone safe. We asked everyone wear a mask when not seated, no mingling, no tables over 10, no stools at the bar, all tables 6 feet apart an added a 2 step table cleaning system-clean first and then sanitize.

4.) Developed 2 ghost kitchens that can be delivered by DoorDash. Nicks Southern Kitchen and nationally acclaimed The Pub Fish & Chips.

5.) Created additional computer and phone stations and added staff members to handle the demands of carryout.

6.) Increased our carryout sales by updating to a digital phone system.

7.) For holidays, we always offered a family buffet. For holidays now, we offer the full menu and have added a special carryout menu with a 2 or 3 entree menu and additions for contact less curbside carryout.

8.) Added 3 Igloos outside. They hold 6 to 7 guests, they have windows that open, an electric fireplace, Bluetooth speakers, air purifier, plants, carpeting and a chandelier for a fun dining experience.

9.) Used Facebook, our email list and The Montgomery Chamber to keep everyone up on what we were doing during the pandemic.

10.) We are giving back to our community this season to help those in need.  We’re donating a $1 for every food or drink item ordered from our holiday features menu to A Kid Again-Southwest Ohio Chapter, located in Montgomery. We also donated lunches to our local hospitals including Bethesda North and Jewish to support our frontline workers during this challenging time.  We are also are proud to support St. Joseph Orphanage in their annual holiday gift drive once again. This year we shopped their Amazon Wish List instead of bringing in requested gifts.
