Where did you grow up?

I've always lived in the Cincinnati area. I grew up on a large working farm, with parents that taught me how to persevere.

Describe Yourself In Three Words.

Ambitious, Easy Going, and Honest.

Do you have hobbies or interests?

I like to run and ride my motorcycle when I have the time. Kayaking is also a favorite. But the best, is spending time with my kiddos at an outside location where we can be together while enjoying nature.

What is your favorite part of your job?

As a former police officer, it was important to me to still feel that I was helping people. After opening Puzzle Pieces, I realize that I still am, and there’s no better feeling in the world. The reviews that families have left for the store leave me humbled daily.

What is the inspiration behind the store?

My inspiration is my son, who was diagnosed with autism at age 18 mos. He is 8 now and an amazing little man.

What is the most challenging about having a loved one being diagnoses with Autism? And how did you overcome?

Changing people’s perception of autism, especially family members and friends who didn’t understand. Teaching those around us about what makes those with autism so unique and special. Different, not less.

Any advice to parents in similar shoes?

Have lots of patience with your loved ones, they just want to help, and it takes a bit sometimes before they realize just how to do that. It’s up to us to help them understand.

What is your key to success?

Understanding what the families are going through because I go through the same things. Living it myself helps me with ordering the perfect items for the store, and understanding for the people who come to see me.

What is one short term goal for you?

To connect with the schools in the area and let them know that we offer discounts for teachers, and affordable sensory room design at their location.

Best advice anyone has given?

Not to be so hard on myself.

If you could have any superpower what would it be?

To make life easier for those with disabilities.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

Peoples misconceptions about people with special needs and to incorporate more understanding for these amazing individuals.

What is your favorite thing about owning a business in Montgomery?

The people who live here!
